From Sweden to St Peg Lane: The Unexpected Visitors Who Stopped at Inches Curtains

After 37 years in business, we've learnt one thing at Inches Curtains, no two days are ever the same.

Over the years we've welcomed customers from across Yorkshire looking for made-to-measure curtains, bespoke blinds, upholstery fabrics, shutters and soft furnishings. We've helped furnish homes, revive treasured furniture and solve countless interior design dilemmas.

But recently we had visitors from a little further afield.

Much further.

A group of motorcyclists from Sweden arrived at our Cleckheaton showroom during their journey to Ireland. Their mission wasn't curtains, blinds or upholstery. Instead, they were on the hunt for something every traveller occasionally needs…buttons and thread.

Fortunately, our haberdashery department came to the rescue.

After thousands of miles on the road, a few clothing repairs were needed before continuing their adventure. So, while most people think of Inches Curtains as specialists in made-to-measure curtains, bespoke blinds and home interiors, our visitors discovered that we also stock a wide range of haberdashery essentials including threads, buttons, sewing accessories and fabric supplies.

The part that really made us smile was how they ended up here in the first place.

While taking a well-earned break on their motorcycle tour from Sweden to Ireland, the group realised a few repairs were needed before they could continue their journey. Out came the phones and a quick Google search for buttons and thread nearby.

The next thing we knew, they were making a detour to Cleckheaton.

It's fair to say we weren't expecting international visitors to arrive looking for emergency sewing supplies, but that's exactly what happened. One minute they were travelling through Yorkshire, the next they were browsing buttons in our haberdashery department.

Not bad for a business that started life on a market stall.

It just goes to show that whether you're from Cleckheaton or Stockholm, sometimes all roads lead to the same place when you're looking for quality products, friendly advice and a little help along the way.

It's not every day that a group of Swedish bikers calls in looking for emergency sewing supplies, but it's exactly the sort of moment that reminds us why we love being an independent local business.

For nearly four decades, our showroom in Cleckheaton has welcomed people from all walks of life. Some arrive with plans for a complete home makeover. Others are searching for the perfect fabric. Occasionally, they're simply passing through on an international motorcycle tour and need a button sewing back on.

Every customer has a story.

One of the joys of running a small independent business is the conversations that happen along the way. While large retailers focus on transactions, local businesses still have the privilege of meeting people, hearing their stories and sharing a few laughs.

Our Swedish visitors certainly gave us a story to remember.

Of course, they left with more than just buttons and thread. They also left with a warm Yorkshire welcome and proof that sometimes the smallest purchases create the biggest memories.

As specialists in made-to-measure curtains, bespoke blinds, shutters, upholstery and haberdashery supplies, we're proud to be part of the local community in Cleckheaton and West Yorkshire. Whether you're planning a full room transformation, searching for the perfect fabric, or simply need a button replacing before the next leg of your journey, you'll always be welcome at Inches Curtains.

After all, you never quite know who's going to walk through the door next.
