Kirklees Hall Ballroom

The challenge: Create curtains for a ballroom in a beautiful, period property in West Yorkshire.

Kirklees Hall is a stunning 16th century property in Clifton, West Yorkshire.

The ballroom is simply stunning, with wide windows that almost reach the ceiling. It’s a room to entertain people that would need equally beautiful curtains to reflect the room’s elegance, quality and a little showiness!
Our challenge was to make sure the curtains not only reflected and enhanced the style of the room, but also to make sure the fabric and lining would help to retain heat in the room, as the windows are leaded and are not double glazed.

The solution: We looked at the rest of the room furnishings and the painted ceiling, and picked a beautiful golden jacquard fabric with swags and tails to go perfectly with the elegant room style. The curtains needed to be 8m wide to give fullness, with a 4m drop – making these the largest curtains we’ve ever created!
We also needed the trimmings to coordinate with the embellished room style, so we chose deep, bullion-fringed tie-backs to complement the scale of the windows.

Hanging the curtains was an enormous job, but we only needed two people and a set of very tall ladders to fit the three windows – all done and dusted in just under one day!

Here’s the great feedback we received from Andrew of Kirklees Hall:

“Thank you so much for listening and understanding exactly what we wanted. We’re thrilled, the result is beautiful, and you’ve framed our (rather large) windows perfectly!”

It’s only when we’d hung the curtains that I saw how beautiful they looked – to say I felt proud is an understatement. I hope you think they look fantastic too!
