Oxford Grange
Kirklees Council didn't hesitate in commisioning Inches to assist in a major refurbishment of the Oxford Grange Care Facility in Gomersal comprising of 30 studio flats, an overnight guest room and large communal areas.
Having already done some smaller jobs for the Grange in the past, Kirklees Council wanted Karen to come up with a range of curtains to match the individual colour schemes of the studios. She was also tasked to refurbish the guest room with poles, curtains and tie-backs. Karen said, "They were so impressed with what I'd done with the guest room that they then wanted me to then fit blinds in all the communal areas and corriders throughout the Grange. That ended up being 46 sets of blinds!"
In the large communal lounge Karen was also responsible for replacing the curtains as well as the blinds.

Kirklees Hall
No sooner was her work being admired by local dignatories and MP's at the offical re-opening of the Grange than Karen's expertise was being called upon yet again for ideas within the grandeur of the Grade I listed Kirklees Hall, pictured here. (Though the name is in common this huge centuries old private estate has nothing to do with the council.)
Two huge rooms needed very sensitive attention. The first was the Oak Room currently being used as a base by an International shipping company. To blend in with the existing old oakwood panelling, Karen choose wooden venetian blinds new to the market due to their width of 63mm and with a drop of of over 3 metres.

In the upstairs library the curtains needed to be nearly 3.5 metres long. The width of the main window (not shown) was in excess of 4metres! A gold brocade material was picked for the matching design of the fabric on the sofas. So what did they think of it all at Kirklees Hall? "Absolutely fantastic and we'd now wished we'd had the work done years ago!"
So no job appears to be too big or small for Inches Curtains!

The new staff were quickly put through their paces preparing the new window displays in readiness for Christmas. Karen said, "I'm delighted with the displays and we've had a lot of complimentary remarks from passers by. This is one of our busiest times of year because a lot of people like their homes to have a new and fresh look over the Christmas holidays."

It's all change at Inches Curtains and Furnishings in Cleckheaton just in time for the Christmas ranges. A new team of consultants have been brought together by business owner Karen Smithson. Hanna Lister was attracted to Inches by the quality of the goods and services on offer as well as by Karen's caring nature that she has for her customers. Hanna comes with a wealth of experience in soft furnishings having been in both the retail and manufacturing side of the business since she was 16!

From left Jan Goodier, Fran Wood, Hanna Lister, Brenda Elliott, Paula Lindsey & Karen Smithson.
Joining Hanna in the showroom is Paula Lindsey as Retail Manager. Paula helped her husband set up and run a successful exhibition stands business but was ready for a completely new challenge. Paula said, "I've been a customer of Inches for years and I've experienced a top quality service from them. When I saw there was a vacancy I leapt at it. I'm over the moon with my new job." Karen said, "Paula has a natural passion and flair for soft furnishings and I've been impressed with the guidance and advice she's being giving to people who walk into the showroom."
Brenda Elliot completes the changes in the showroom staff taking the place of long serving Gemma Gomersell who started her maternity leave at the end of October. Brenda has moved back to this area to be with her family and has previously worked for Hush Puppie and Marks & Spencer.
In the sewing room Fran Wood is joined by Jan Goodier to cope with the increased demand for sewing services. It also means that jobs can be turned around a lot more quickly.

5th Jan 2010 - SO WHAT'S A SNOOD WHEN IT'S AT HOME?!
When Lighting Design Awards voted the Snood as the best lighting product 2009 AND most innovative product 2009 it kind of caught our attention!
One of the great changes to modern home interiors has been the introduction of the halogen spotlight or downlighter. All over the world these small, innocuous lights have slowly but surely laid claim to our ceilings. At first they seemed content with kitchens. But, almost without our noticing, they crept into our bathrooms, hallways and bedrooms. And then, most audaciously of all, they entered our living rooms! If you can’t beat them, make them beautiful.

There are over 60 million downlighters installed in the UK. So, to save all those ceilings from eternal blandness, Aimbry have produced a simple decorative solution that will literally change the downlighter market beyond all recognition. Snood is the new must-have decorative lighting product and is the most exciting and innovative thing to happen to lighting in years.
A Snood simply ‘clicks’ onto a generic downlighter instantly transforming it into a work of art... they call it ceiling creativity. The technical genius of Snood is the remarkably simple magnetic ring with which the product is attached to the downlighter. The creative genius is the way in which Aimbry have taken advantage of Snood’s potential by designing a range of decorative products to suit every taste. Being a brand new category, it comes as no surprise that Snood has to be seen to be believed. The effects are both spectacular and surprising: from contemporary, minimal shades that help homemakers retain the simple, sophisticated look that downlighters once promised, to the architectural elegance of the mini-chandeliers that playfully and tastefully refract the clean, white light in a very modern take on a much-loved classic. Perhaps the most transformational is the range of hanging beads. Graceful and sensuous, these metamorphose any ceiling into a magical jewelled wonderland. Fully tested and compliant, Snood is simple, effective and absolutely unique. And is quite simply the essential lighting accessory for the 21st Century.
In our showroom we've had a special window display made to show off a wide variety of these Snoods so you can see for yourself how effective they are.
